Not Sure what is happening but new members are getting to be a thing of the past. The world of detecting is filled with dinosaurs with very few new member entering the hobbie. Collecting is down in most every category. Kids are inheriting their parents collections of , coins, antiques and ect and when that happens the items are sold, driving the collector markets down. The new generation as big as they are live for the following, Cell Phone, A bed, Food and car, otherwise they travel lite. We can try to get them interested in detecting or collecting but I don't see it. Oh !!! I left out money. The days of collecting are coming to an end with prices dropping in every category.
When I look around at our club meeting I look out a mostly older group with a very small percentage of new members and then they lose interest and we don't see them again.... Maybe, Just Maybe things will change but it will take time... Just My Take Jim

I am new i am from California and I am in my early 30s I have always ben interested in metal detecting but not able to purchase a unit as they are vary pricy.
This is the same issue with a younger generation of people you can't get Young Folks to be interested in something they cannot afford that being said if you had the financial ability and want to see changes I would suggest buying multiple detectors going to colleges and high schools to do demonstrations to attempt to get kids interested by showing them how to use them and let them find stuff wile giving demonstrations.
And it's up to the financially stable older generation to take the younger generation out as many times as possible with them when they go detecting allowing them to use loaner devices while they're in your care.
I understand they're very expensive that's why you don't let them take them home they are only to be used while there with you.
This will give the younger Generations more incentive to save up to buy their own so they can go whenever they want but you cannot expect youngsters to get interested in a hobby they can't afford without giving them a constant role model to keep them interested.
