I found this buckle April 28th on a small group hunt in Maine. My friends had just checked out an area where I found a good find the year before. We had a downpour the day before so ground still had some good size puddles. I was passing my coil through one of them, when my friend said "wow! going right in the muck too huh!" I said you never know where you find stuff.
They left to go hunt somewhere else. All by my lonesome there maybe 5 feet from where my friend had just looked. I got a solid mid - tone like Nickle on At Pro. I didn't know if I should dig it or not as many tractor parts in the area. I said what the heck didn't find much so far today anyway. I got down about three inches this rock was in my way. After I finally got that out there was this looked like flat piece of meta with these things sticking out of it. I said Great! another tractor part. pulled it out it weighed quit a bit for such a small part I thought. I brushed some of the mud off looked like three hooks or something looking up at me.
As I turned it over and started wiping the mud off I start seeing letters a U and S . It was not still sinking in I though must be plate that goes on tractor. As I brushed more mud off it finally dawned on me what I was holding in my hand. I was so stunned I could not believe it. I found this here in this field in Maine. Holy crap! That was the relic of the day for sure. I will always remember that day it was just awesome!
