Affordable Core Drilling with a Minex Winkie Description: Since 2000, Minex has been the manufacturer of the Winkie Drill, the small, man-portable diamond drill which has been the core drill of choice in all remote locations of the world. Formerly made by JKS Boyles, the Winkie Drill has been sold for over 40 years, and it is now being manufactured in Minnesota. Lightweight and compact, the Winkie Drill is particularly suited to drilling in the most remote locations: high mountains, deserts, arctic tundra, and dense jungles.
The Winkie Drill is a gas powered drill which weighs only 180 pounds and can be carried by pickup truck, mule back, helicopter or two men into the most difficult terrain. With lightweight drill rods, it has the capacity to drill 475 feet using E size tools. Total weight of the drill and Unipress frame is 185 pounds (84.1 kg.) This time-proven design makes minimal environmental impact. It will operate from sea-level to high altitudes.
Variable drilling speeds, using a two-speed transmission, allow the Winkie Drill to operate efficiently. This is the lightest gear-shift diamond drill in operation today. The Winkie tripod with its winch helps to increase the production rate and results in lowered fatigue for the drill crew.
Lightweight and compact, the Winkie Drill is particularly suited to drilling in rough, mountainous terrain where it can be carried by two men of lifted by helicopter into a drill site. Total weight of the drill with Unipress frame is 185 lbs (84.1 kg). The original lightweight exploration drill, designed by Fred Wink and sold by JKS Smit and JKS Boyles is now being manufactured in the U.S. by Minex of Virginia, Minnesota. This time-proven design makes minimal environmental impact and has performed well in all parts of the world. Minex plans to improve on both the reliability and tha availability of this extremely portable and versatile drill.
Powered by an efficient 10 hp, 2 cycle, air-cooled gasoline engine, the Winkie Drill has been used for many years in remote locations worldwide. It operates from sea-level to high altitudes. The Winkie Drill has proven itself to be the ideal drill for the toughest locations, whether jungles or high mountains.
Variable drilling speeds, achieved by two-speed transmission, help to make the Winkie operate efficiently, This drill is the lightest gear shift diamond drill in operation today.
The Unipress frame enables the driller to exert a steady pressure with a minimum of exertion. Operator fatigue is reduced, contributing to a more economical operation.
The Winkie tripod with winch helps to increase the speed of drilling and the results in less fatigue for the driller.
Aluminium rods can be transported to the drill site easier and also facilitate hoisting from the hole. Lightweight steel rods are also available. Aluminium rods save about 30 to 40% of the weight, and increase the depth capacity of the Winkie Drill.
